2021 Maura Jane Photography Wedding Superlatives

We seriously can not express how amazing the weddings we had in 2021 were. Could it have been that everyone was ready to have the best party ever after 2020? Maybe. But all in all we are so grateful for each and every couple we captured and as we wrap up the year, we just had to give everyone one more shout out. So here you have it. The Maura Jane Photography 2021 Wedding Superlatives!

BEST INVITATIONS:
Rebecca & Nathan

We loved Rebecca and Nathan's mixture of a fun southwestern print with classic, pastel colors. Right up the MJP alley! Funky Olive Design just nailed it!

BEST COLOR PALETTE:
Anahi & Elliot

Anahi and Elliott's color palette was to die for! Coming fresh out of shutdown, not only had it been a while since we'd been able to shoot a wedding, but their bold, bright, and beautiful colors blew us away!

BEST RING:
Hannah & Derrick

We will always be the most supportive advocates of anything non-traditional... including alternative stones! Hannah's glacier-blue aquamarine ring was drool-worthy.

BEST SHOES:
Courtenay & Brandon

Courtenay had pink Louboutin's... and it would be against the law if she didn't win best shoes for these red-bottoms. Just look at them!

BEST HAIR AND MAKEUP:
Jaiden & Issaac

One glance at Jaiden and you'll immediately see why she won best HMU: between her striking eyeliner and gold-glittered eyelids, bold red lip, and stunning headpiece, she looked like an absolute goddess! Plus Genica Lee always hits it out of the park.

BEST SPRING FLOWERS:
Karissa & Jason

We just loved Karissa's beautiful bouquet created by A Beautiful Theme. From the roses to pampas grass it was the perfect combination of desert meets classic elegance.

BEST SUMMER FLOWERS:
Julie & Evan

Julie's bouquet by Albuquerque Florist was undeniably amazing. The statement blooms of large protea accompanied by eye-catching shades really made her florals pop!

BEST FALL FLOWERS:
Courtenay & Brandon

Guess who's back? (Back again). Courtenay's back. (Tell a friend). No seriously, just look at these florals! Epitome of autumn gorgeousness, so props to Renegade Florals!

BEST WINTER FLOWERS:
Nicole & Joby

Between the elegant white roses and accents of pampas grass, this bouquet by Floral Elegance was the perfect ending note from winter headed into spring!

BEST FIRST LOOK:
Lauren & Ben

Ben's reaction to Lauren's reveal was just too sweet! You could tell as soon as he turned around that he was just blown away, and their first look needed to be shared again.

BEST DADDY/DAUGHTER FIRST LOOK:
Sarah & Lance

We love emotional first looks... But somehow, Daddy/Daughter first looks make us even more emotional! Sarah's first look with her dad was just too sweet to not include!

BEST REACTION DOWN THE AISLE:
Valerie & Tim

Talk about an emotional moment! We love that Tim's best man Daniel also was crying!

BEST SPRING DRESS:
Karissa & Jason

While Karissa's dress was long-sleeved and not your typical spring dress, the lace sleeves were so sheer and delicate and stunning that we couldn't deny the Hayley Paige creation this spot!

BEST WINTER DRESS:
Erica & Elliott

Erica's dress was simply jaw-dropping! Leanne Marshall designed this dress in such a way that the skirt was a pastel watercolor-streaked masterpiece. Yes, yes, and YES!!!

BEST DRESSED BRIDE:
Sandy & Kevin

Sandy's sultry look was absolutely incredible! Her hair, makeup, dress, and veil combined made this glam girl top-tier.

BEST DRESSED GROOM:
Sandy & Kevin

Second only to his bride, Kevin was dressed just as sharply, and these two combined made for one heck of a power couple come their big day!

BEST DRESSED COUPLE:
Sharaf & Naima

These two win best couple due to their culturally unique outfits and colors! A bride in mint and blush? Yes, please! And Sharaf flipped Western tradition on its head by being the one in white. We love it! Plus, check out their sweet kicks. So cool!

BEST DRESSED GROOMSMEN:
Holley & Cooper /Kelsie & Xavier

For maybe the first time in the history of MJP superlatives... it's a black tie! (Get it? Good, now laugh. Thank you). Both Cooper and Xavier's groomsmen blew us away with their tuxes! As ZZ Top famously said... "every girl crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man!"

BEST DRESSED BRIDESMAIDS:
Jordan & Brett

We love when brides allow their bridesmaids to pick whatever dress they feel flatters them most as long as they stay within the color palette... and Jordan's girls killed it! Plus the color was so unique!

BEST DRESSED BRIDAL PARTY:
Nikki & Shawn

Altogether now! For suits and dresses, Nikki and Shawn's crew absolutely deserved this spot! We loved the mismatched bridesmaid dresses and leather suspenders!

BEST NEW MEXICO VENUE:
Christi & Clay

Taking place at Manzano Mountain Retreat, this off the grid spot in the Cibola National Forest boasts a picturesque pond, woodsy vibes, mountain views, and an apple orchard!

BEST DESTINATION VENUE:
Kelsie & Xavier

As soon as we got to this category, we immediately knew Kelsie and Xavier were winning this one. First of all, it was in Sedona, so big check mark there! These two were able to get stunning red canyons for a few of their couple's portraits... But beyond that: this venue is unlike any venue in New Mexico and Arizona! With both a hint of Tuscan and major European-style Spanish vibes, Tlaquepaque Art Center's cobblestone paths and plethora of arches offered a myriad of portrait spots! We died. Then came back to life. Then died again. It was fantastic.

BEST INDOOR CEREMONY:
Keiana & Ryan

Another destination wedding, we love when we can shoot somewhere new! Provo Utah's Sleepy Ridge Country club had an amazing indoor ballroom that Keiana and Ryan's florist and decor specialists somehow made even more incredible! We're usually all about outdoor ceremonies... but this was just too stunning to deny!

BEST OUTDOOR CEREMONY:
Holley & Cooper

Round two for this couple... and all because of Blame Her Ranch's sublime views overlooking some of the New Mexico's most enchanting landscapes!

BEST CEREMONY VIEW:
Jenny & Tom

Prairie Star's unbeatable views of Albuquerque's Sandias made this couple's ceremony simply *chef's kiss.*

MOST UNIQUE CEREMONY DETAIL:
Amanda & Maxwell

This was a fun one! Taking place at Casa Rondena Winery, of course their ceremony involved wine. The couple sipped their respective glasses, red and white, before blending the two and sharing the mixed glass to symbolize the intertwining of their lives forevermore. So romantic! Even more so because, ya know, wine ;)

BEST INDOOR RECEPTION SPACE:
Katie & Ian

We've seen some pretty cool ceremony and reception spaces in the past couple years... but we absolutely loved the modern clean space for Katie + Ian's destination wedding! The Atrium in Missouri offered the perfect backdrop for their geometric, minimalist arch that framed their sweetheart table as well as the long wooden family style tables and abundance of greenery!

BEST OUTDOOR RECEPTION SPACE:
Caroline & Jon

A Beautiful Theme really outdid themselves here! Every table was more stunning than the next, and the twinkle lights tied the whole space into a pretty little bow. The place settings and decorations on the chairs of the head table? We don't even have words. With the backdrop of the beautiful tuscan style of Casa Rondena, this reception space was the epitome of elegance.

BEST PARTY CREW:
Jennifer & Adrian:

If a couple's reception was the epitome of Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get It Started," it would be Jennifer and Adrian's. Their party pictures were absolutely hilarious, and honestly we're pretty jealous we didn't get to be guests for that one! It also makes a huge different when you have a DJ crew like Cutmaster Music to get everyone on their feet!

BEST PARTY STARTERS:
Melanie & Kevin

While many of our couples who's venue is La Fonda tend to follow a mariachi band around Santa Fe's gorgeous plaza, we've yet to have a couple stop in the plaza and dance! It got even better when guests from their wedding and onlookers joined in! It was the perfect way to kick off a reception.

BEST PORTRAIT TAKING LOCATION:
Victoria & Aaron

During their reception, we swept these two cuties to the top of the building so that they could stand on the roof for sunset... and boy are we glad! The Eldorado provided a magical backdrop, and we stayed as long as possible getting all the best angles for these two in front of the unbelievable view of Santa Fe and the Sangre de Cristos.

MOST TRENDSETTING:
Erica & Casey

Erica and Casey's wedding looked straight out of a styled shoot. These two had the absolute best, trendiest details! From their 'Till Death Do Us Part theme to the handmade flower wall, and from her rhinestone jean jacket to their "Flower Guy," (equipped in a fanny pac and Pit Vipers as he danced down the aisle, leaving the guests gasping for air through their laughter), this wedding was SO unique and fun!

COOLEST TRANSPORTATION:
Kassy & Christian

Christian's grandfather's '57 Bel Air was this sweet couple's transportation from their wedding venue to their portraits in the Bosque. Not only was it a super cool car, but it doubled as being sentimental to the pair, as his grandfather had passed away a few months before their wedding. This spot absolutely belongs to them.

BEST FAVORS:
Alyssa & Cole

Alyssa's family owns a chili farm in southern New Mexico, so it was only fitting that they gifted their guests custom hot sauce with a cute charicature of the newlyweds on it! We were all for it. Spice lover Hannah may have even taken one home. Don't tell. *wink wink*

BEST SWEETHEART TABLE:
Monique & AJ

We have been seeing a lot of neon signs this year! Its a really cool trend that we are huge fans of. We loved the fact that Monique and AJ paired it with classic white roses and a blush velvet table linen with candles. So gorg!

BEST CAKE:
Angela & Francisco
