We started 2020 thinking it was going to be our best year yet. We had so many beautiful weddings to look forward to, so many new places to travel to and see. It was a rude awakening when of course as we all know, COVID reared its ugly head and everything the world had planned was turned upside down. We went from having 50 weddings to just 16. The rest postponed, or sadly, cancelled. While its been a tough year for us and the entire wedding industry as a whole, we have truly learned you can not take things for granted and each and every one of these weddings that we did document was so near and dear to our hearts.
So this year, in lieu of the fun superlatives we usually post where we select weddings for best dress, best florals, best dance etc... we are sharing all 16 of the weddings we did have, as well as the editorial shoots we took part in, and why each any every one was so special.
Caroline & Matt
January 4th, 2020
Noah's Event Center
Caroline and Matt kicked off our year... and it was also unknowingly our last large wedding before COVID-19 arose, while also being our last wedding before Noah's unexpectedly closed it's doors. It's one that we most definitely won't forget! We simply adored Carolyn's dress and how the sleeves were perfect for winter.
Caitlyn & Jeremiah
February 22nd, 2020
This couple had so many hurdles in their path... from vendors canceling at the last minute, to a downpour of rain on their wedding day. However, they remained so positive! Caitlyn's smile was absolutely infectious, and the fact that her lipstick matched her bouquet was just perfect!
Stacey & Manny
March 13th, 2020
The Four Seasons Santa Fe
Our first intimate of the year was Stacey and Manny... little did we know how much of a norm it would become! We loved their invitations, and Stacey's flowers by Renegade Floral were so unique and delicate. Beyond their invitations, the Santa Fe postcard save the date was also such a fun touch!
Kathleen & Craig
April 13th, 2020
La Fonda On the Plaza
These two were married during the shutdown, which made it our first true, no guest elopement this year. The couple aired their wedding via zoom as a snow storm came in to Santa fe while they said I do.
Editorial Santa Fe Blossom Shoot
April 23rd, 2020
Downtown Santa Fe
This was our first shoot where we decided to get back in to film photography! We are so excited to use more in this upcoming year, and will hopefully soon be offering packages that include film! We're also thrilled that we found this spot... because we can't wait to put it to use for our Santa Fe couples in 2021! Sarah, our very talented long-time associate shooter doubled as our model for this shoot. Take a look at the stunning results!
Nyika & Joel
May 16th, 2020
Following up on our Firsts list, this was our first big-wedding-turned-backyard-micro-wedding. We loved that this couple decided they didn't want to wait to make themselves official, and that they were willing to do whatever it (safely) took to say their vows! We also loved their wedding rings... they were like works of art!
Alejandrina & Pablo
May 20th, 2020
This pair won our Best Love Story Contest that we did for Valentine's Day! The prize was a giveaway for an anniversary shoot, and couple's could enter either by writing us their own love story, or others submitting their story for them. Alejandrina and Pablo won this year's contest, and it was the perfect opportunity for us to train Hannah as an official associate shooter, as opposed to just being a second shooter. Our last minute vendors of Bosque Flower Studio and Laura McDowell killed it, especially since we were shooting mid-lockdown, and everything was consistently up in the air.
Joy & Manny
June 5th, 2020
Hotel Parq Central
This was Hannah's first wedding as an official associate shooter for MJP! We couldn't have asked for a better setting or couple to sharpen her skills, as Hotel Parq Central has countless amazing spots for effortlessly beautiful photos, and this couple was so joyful (pun semi-intended) and affectionate that it made capturing their day a breeze!
Hailey & Evan
June 14th, 2020
Hailey and Evan not only had to deal with the closing of their venue, Noah's Event Center, but then the cancelling of their wedding at Casa Rodena as well. They postponed their big day to next year officially, but still hosted an intimate elopement in a family member's backyard. Our hearts were so full and happy to be a part of it... and also to meet their adorable, sweet new puppy, Sunni!
Ashley's Angelic Bridal Session
June 23rd, 2020
Ashley's wedding was supposed to take place at Los Poblanos, but with the shutting of their doors to (large) weddings, she and her fiancé decided to move their wedding to Texas, that way they could actually have everything they had planned. She chose to still do her bridal portraits at Los Poblanos as an homage to their original venue, and the results were breathtaking. We also were thrilled to shoot the majority of this session on film... which made the glowy photos even more ethereal and dreamy!
Editorial Colorful Southwestern Shoot
June 26th, 2020
Hacienda Dona Andrea
This shoot was so much fun! We worked with Magnolia and Rose (planning and design) and A Beautiful Theme (florals) to bring this playful and colorful shoot to life, along with Hacienda Dona Andrea for the stunning venue/backdrops. We not only included a tequila donkey... but there was a mini donkey as well for an extra dash of cuteness!
Carolyn & Nick
August 22nd, 2020
Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi & Private Residence
We were obsessed with how much this couple incorporated so many meaningful cultural significances... from the handmade invitations, to the Mexican sodas, cookies, and a variety of yummy paletas! Her father-daughter dance was to the song "Sweet Caroline," except everyone was singing lyrics to a play on the bride's name, with the lyrics of the "Sweet Caroyln (and Nick)" version being passed around to guests.
Ashley & Seth
August 29th, 2020
When Los Poblanos announced they would only be doing intimate weddings or elopements from now on and with the government still having a shutdown on weddings, Ashley and Seth were forced to rethink their venue. They moved it from Albuquerque to Las Cruces, where they were planning on having it on Seth's family's farm, but then changed their plans again to Austin, Texas so that they'd be able to have the wedding they'd been dreaming of... and boy, are we glad! Ashley chose the most feminine and romantic details, and the venue simply blew us away with it's elegant architecture and abundance of gorgeous spots for photos.
Kelly & Macon
September 19th, 2020
We were blown away by the amazing spots for photos on this couple's private residence venue! We never knew about this area of Albuquerque... with it's luscious greenery and towering trees, this farm was a diamond in the rough! Their pictures came out sun-drenched and beautiful! We also loved their sparkler grand entrance, as it was an awesome way to kick off the party! And, of course, we can't not mention their cake toppers: their two mischievous black labs, who'd adorably "eaten" a hole in the back of the cake. Such a cute detail!
Bethany & Josh
September 26th, 2020
Hotel Parq Central
We loved how this couple chose to do a morning/early-afternoon wedding, ending the day with their couple's portraits. They truly valued photography and wanted to make sure they could capture as many gorgeous photos as possible, all without keeping their guests waiting or being restricted by a timeline. We also loved their use of their color palette! Emerald green and ivory aren't typical colors for us to photograph, so we were able to have a lot of fun with it. And finally, their fig-covered cake with the cute fox topper was beautiful.
Jessica & Bobby
October 3rd, 2020
Old Town Farm & Private Residence
Jessica and Bobby were supposed to tie the knot at Old Town Farm, but like so many of our couples this year, they had to roll with the punches, and settled on a friend's backyard for their wedding. We still made sure to do photos at Old Town Farm however, this way they could have something from their original plan. Everyone was so welcoming and kind, our team felt like part of the family! We adored their tent and how elegantly it was draped in white linen and twinkle lights. Of course, we also love how much time they set aside for photos!
Emily & Mark
October 3rd, 2020
While Maura and Hannah were capturing the previous couple's wedding, Sarah was off documenting Emily and Mark! Our team loved how Emily's wedding dress was green, a fun and playful alternative to the ivories, whites, and occasional blushes we tend to see. Their custom monogram was also a unique touch that we really loved!
A Boho Chic Shoot in Santa Fe
October 5th, 2020
A new venue opened in Santa Fe, and we knew we had to do a shoot there with A Beautiful Theme! We made sure to showcase the natural beauty of New Mexico with a boho chic vibe, and it felt like the perfect fit for the venue. Our main color palette was inspired by the tassels used on the escort display and the quickly approaching fall weather. Wanting to incorporate something a little more New Mexico that matched the stunning adobe of the venue, pampas grass was brought in for a desert vibe.
A Sun-kissed Styled Bridal Session
October 8th, 2020
Hotel Parq Central
Back in early October, we were thrilled to meet with the ever-talented Betty Rose by Alanna for a bridal session collaboration! We chose the elegant Hotel Parq Central, due to it's classic appearance and beautiful architecture, along with the fact that it's a fun change from New Mexico's typical southwestern adobe venues. She made sure the Kesha's skin glowed even when the sun wasn't hitting her, and she had the most stunning gleam as a result! We had so much fun playing with her lace, detachable sleeves that paired perfectly with her dress— all compliments of Bridal Elegance by Darlene.
Monica + Nathan
October 10th, 2020
St. Jude and El Pinto
This pair was creative in how they switched up their venues to have a COVID safe wedding! We also loved how they did a Day After shoot at Los Poblanos, where they were able to get dressed up again and take even more photos— like Bethany and Josh, there was no pressure of keeping guests waiting. Our favorite details were Monica's killer Ted Baker Heels and Nathan's trendy maroon tux!
Amanda & Max
October 10th, 2020
While Maura and Sarah were capturing the previous couple, Hannah went to Casa Rodena to meet with Amanda and Max. This pair had come in from Phoenix for this micro-elopement (with plans for a larger celebration in 2021), and the winery was a stunning choice of venue! To tie in with the location theme, the couple had a wine mixing ceremony, where they poured two separate wines into one glass, symbolizing the mixture of their lives forevermore. We also adored their first look and how excited Max was to see his beautiful bride.
Hannah & Derrick
October 24th, 2020
10k trail, Cedar Crest
These two cuties still plan on having a large wedding in 2021, but wanted to elope on their favorite hiking trail this year. Despite it being a small elopement, they put as much effort into their details as they would a full-sized wedding, and Hannah's embroidered, long-sleeved dress and cascading bouquet had us swooning. We love how trendy and southwestern, but still light and elegant, their portraits came out!
